It never ceases to amaze me how much music is in Sacramento, and it drives me crazy when I hear people say they don’t know any bands from here. In fact, that is what drove me to start trying to share as much local music as I can, both past and present bands. Of course, it will be impossible for me to share them all, but at the very least I can give people a stepping stone, or a place to get started.
The other thing that drove me crazy were the printed music news magazines. You see, we used to have Submerge magazine, and SN&R that were a good resource for finding local music, and shows…but they never really had a great online presence that highlighted where to find the music, you only found what they featured. I get it though (oh do I ever get it!), it is a monumental task trying to share the amazing diversity in this little city, let alone for free (yeah, I don’t make any money from this, not that you were wondering or anything).
Anyway, one place I have been able to find a plethora of local music is Bandcamp. Of course the site isn’t as independent as it once used to be, but I still enjoy it because it REALLY is a great resource for past and present Sacramento music.
Now I know a lot of people are lazy and don’t really want to search for bands, but you’re in luck….I actually want to try and do that for you! All you have to do is check out the SacInideMusic collection on bandcamp! A major plus is that all the artist listed there is music I have purchased, so when they get featured, they get payed. That is also a reason why I don’t have everything listed there, LOL! I could spend all my cash monies there in one day and then be very broke, haha!
I am doing the best I can, and if you find stuff you like that is not posted there, or maybe you’re in a band and want your stuff added to this collection…well it’s all easy peasy…..just send an email to sacindiemusic@gmail (with links to your music), or comment here and I’ll put it in my wishlist until I can buy it, cause I like to buy the music.
