This immigrant Latin trio band brings their Latin infused new wave/Post punk sounds to the local Sacramento music scene!

Scouring the depths of social medial looking for something new, something to lift my soul and make me dance I happily stumbled Los Sindes and was hooked by their groovy bass lines, the nostalgia of the chorus laden guitar, and tight rhythms of the drums. They are a fun band who also recently released two singles called ‘Playa C’ and ‘Sonicos’ which you can chill out too on all streaming platforms! I have seriously been bumping these jams on the reg, you gotta go stream them now!

Their members include Manu (drums) who arrived from El Salvador in the 2000’s, Zito (guitar/vocals) emigrated from Peru in the 2010’s, and Rodri (bass/vocals) who is a first generation Nicaraguan and Puerto Rican. Together they created Los Sindes as “a love letter not only to immigrants in the US and people back home, but it’s for everyone that cherishes the nostalgic twang of a chorus pedal.” All are also recent transplants from the Bay Area looking to get their footing here in Sacramento and have brought along with them a fresh new wave/Post punk sound with Spanish vocals to Sacramento.
They were kind enough to answer some questions we had to get to know them a little better and to help introduce then into the tiny, but mighty local Sacramento music scene.
Check out the interview below, and then go catch them playing Prochfest 2022 on Saturday, October 1st!

SacIndieMusic: Tell us what your band name means, and how did you chose it?
Los Sindes: Its funny it’s like a play on words but in Spanish. We originally wanted to call
ourselves “Los Indestructibles” but we realized for non Spanish speakers and for
future bills at shows its a mouthful. Los Sindes is easier and it leaves the name
up for interpretation too.
SacIndieMusic: We read that you all met about 8 years ago and played music together in the Bay Area, how did you all end up in Sacramento?
Los Sindes: Yea, Zito and Rodri had their post punk project during early college while I
worked on my solo work and I was playing for another musician at the time
Highsunn. After Zito was finished with his other project, and I stopped touring we
began writing for Los Sindes but due to school and life took a 4 year pause. I
moved to Sacramento for work and Rodri and Zito stayed living in the bay. Once
Rodri came into the mix we picked the project back and started writing/playing
together.
“Sacramento feels more homie”, more accepting and kind. It embraces you, once you start having conversations and talking about your project and showing your sound, people
take you in and support much more quickly. “ – Los Sindes
SacIndieMusic: How would you compare the music scene here in Sacramento to the Bay Area?
Los Sindes: The bay had three major hubs for sound; SF, the East Bay and San Jose. Each
sector had its different sound but the community remained the same. It felt more
competitive in the bay, although still welcoming there was a feeling that you had
to bring something perfect to the table because the scene was ever evolving
because of so many different tastes and sounds. Sacramento feels more
“homie”, more accepting and kind. It embraces you, once you start having
conversations and talking about your project and showing your sound, people
take you in and support much more quickly. It feels less clique oriented. House
shows are more frequent and feel more like all out shows. Its just a smaller scene
because of the smaller population, but its strong.
SacIndieMusic: Congratulations on your recently released a new single called ‘Playa C’ ! Its a great track with great vibes….tell us a little about how you wrote it and what it is about.
Los Sindes: Zito had come up with the bass groove back in 2018, we really wanted a bass
oriented song and he delivered perfectly with the catchy line. Rodri took it over
and made it his which we really appreciated. I was able to help with the lyrics and
vocal melody on this one, and in 15 minutes we put it together a day before
recording. Its a melancholic song, about missing people that have come and
gone in your life. Nostalgia really, but knowing they had an important role/lesson
in your life and you remain grateful. Good old fashion dancy wistful song ya
know?
SacIndieMusic:Who would you say are some of your musical influences, and what kind of
sound are you going for with your music overall?
Los Sindes: We get a lot of inspiration from the new wave/post punk movement of the late
70s and 80s from the US/Britain but also from Latin American groups from
Mexico, Argentina, brazil, Peru, Chile and also from Europe like Spain. Bands
like Soda Stereo, The Cure, The Police, Heroes del Silencio, G.I.T., JAS, Los
Prisioneros, Los Violadores. We really believe in taking in as much music that we
love and generate a nostalgic yet very original new sound.
SacIndieMusic: Where did you record the track? Was it self produced?
Los Sindes: We got helped by a great Producer out at EarthTone studios. Great guy, he really
wants to help upcoming bands and is very helpful and affordable. Its cool to have
folks like that because it helps nascent bands truly get on the map. Check him
out and let other folks know. He’s on Instagram.

SacIndieMusic: Do you have any plans for future releases?
Los Sindes: Yes! We want to drop some singles and little by little see how things go since
scheduling can be difficult.
SacIndieMusic: Any plans for more shows, or a tour?
Los Sindes: We definitely want more shows and since we are so new we are trying to connect
with more people to book some shows. Since schedules are rigid, we can only do a
show or two a month. Maybe next summer we’re looking to do a tour of the coast
of California and then hop on over to do a Latin American tour.
SacIndieMusic: Anything you want to share about yourselves or your music that you think people should know?
Los Sindes: This project, at the end of the day, is a love letter not only to immigrants in the
U.S and people back home, but it’s for everyone that cherishes the nostalgic
twang of a chorus pedal. Latin people deserve some Rock En Español, and I
know Sacramento is yearning for some, Thank you!
