Rituals of Mine are coming home for one night only for an all-ages show on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Starlet Room (2708 J St. Sacramento, CA 95816)! If you have yet to see them live, are just now hearing about this group, or it has been a long while, we highly recommend you to attend this gig!
If you are unfamiliar with Terra Lopez, the lead singer and mastermind of Rituals of Mine, we would love to share with you just a tiny slice of her background. Terra has a long and impressive musical history here in Sacramento. She has honed her skills for many years playing in the local venues of our city and is also known for her loyalty and devotion to her hometown and fans of Sacramento, never forgetting her roots, and always “representing the 916”.
Terra has fronted several projects here in Sacramento, including Kyoto Beat Orchestra, The Evening Episode, and the ever-beloved Sister Crayon, which later transformed into Rituals of Mine sometime in 2016 and features the incredible live drumming of Adam Pierce (Emmure). Rituals of Mine has graced historical stages, including the Greek Theatre as an opening act for the Deftones, and shared the stage with incredible live performers such as Built to Spill, Garbage, and the legendary Tricky. But the journey to success has not always been smooth sailing, as Terra has experienced both triumphs and profound tragedies along the way.

At one point in time, past tragedies engulfed her in grief so much that she lost her voice and the ability to create. Still, she eventually found the power to continue on by reflecting on her past experiences and embracing the power of nostalgia. By reflecting on the person she was before those tragedies and losses, and recognizing and acknowledging the trauma, she created the Rituals of Mine album, Hype Nostalgia.

Hype Nostalgia was released during the pandemic’s beginning, in September of 2020, leaving the duo unable to take the music on the road and, like so many, resorted to live-streaming performances. But now, nearly 3 years later, Rituals of Mine can finally share these songs live for a short West Coast tour before disappearing again to finish their new album. Hype Nostalgia is genuinely a beautiful album. It is a record of grief and resiliency. It is full of venerability and love. All those emotions spill into the listener’s ears, bringing people together and connecting us in our shared triumphs and tragedies. It is an album that deserves to be heard! But, once this short tour ends, seeing what their new album brings will be exciting. Terra has given us a recent glimpse of this next part of the journey with the release of their latest single, ‘The Only Way Out Is Through.’
Over the years, Terra has spent a lot of time healing and working to reinvent Rituals of Mine. She expressed that she is ready to take the music in a new direction, which shows in this new track. “The only way out is through” has become her mantra. The beautiful lyric “because the only way out is through I’ll keep running right back to you, ain’t that something” lets listeners know there is a way out of grief and the light of joy will show itself once again. Terra introduced the song on Instagram and said it was her “guide to getting through grief, as the mantra I repeated to myself dozens of times a day, kept me alive, made me believe again, and took me back to my purpose”. It took her back to music and the stage, ready to release her unique creativity into the world and to take the stage once again in her hometown.
