Bay Area rapper, RNJ releases new single…
Every once in a while, an underground artist will reach out and drop a dope track right into my lap! That’s one of the perks of writing about underground musicians. Recently, Bay Area artist RNJ shared their new single titled ‘Kill My Vibe’ with Sac.Indie.Music, and I was immediately drawn in by the opening lyrics: “Don’t you kill my vibe / make it right / make it nice / live your life ’cause you never know when you might lose your life.” The truth of it sank into my soul… Don’t kill my vibes; let me just live life because we never know when this ride will end. Every day, I find myself screaming the same thing on the inside as I sit at my job, hacking away at my computer, replying to the unending onslaught of emails, wishing those pesky coworkers would just please let me do my thing and not bug me about the stupid weather over the weekend.
RNJ was born in Dededo, Guam, and spent most of his formative years in Fayetteville, North Carolina, before moving to California as a teenager. Receiving musical influences from the South, the Bay Area, and exposure from different parts of the world helped him to create his vibrant sound and his earnest lyrics. ‘Kill My Vibe’ shows the depth of his lyrical writing; they are serious with intention and have a purpose.
RNJ’s newest single has so much depth and sincerity full of feeling, which can be heard in my other favorite lyric that says, “Fuck, no one should be working this hard, why’d you give me these scars…”. As RNJ states, ‘Kill My Vibe’ will help you explore the origins of your limitations and the freedoms you can have once you escape them. It really is an anthem that embodies the maxim, the yearning, of breaking free. The Stoic-produced track explores the reflection of self-doubt, past regrets, and the yearning to take control of one’s life.”
RNJ has not yet performed in Sacramento, but is hoping to eventually, and we all know how hard it can be to break into a music scene, even in our neighboring cities! But hopefully, he will come and visit us soon… In the meantime, if you’re looking for a good gig to vibe to out in the Bay Area, RNJ will be performing at the Purusha Yoga Studio (3729 Balboa Street) on April 26th in San Francisco, California. It’s bound to be a dope show!
